This will be a review on a video game called Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, made by Ubisoft, In the game coordination and working together with your teammates online, is important to get the most out of each of the unique Operator’s ability’s in the game. Operators in the game are like characters. There are 44 in total each with different background histories. Operators work with Counter Terrorist Units (CTU’s), Special Air Service (SAS), The National Gendarmerie Intervention Group, (GIGN), Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT), Groupe d’intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale (GIS). Each military group represents a country. Siege has come a long way since it launched two years ago.  The core of Siege hasn’t changed, a 5v5 player team deathmatch based on attacking and defending sides between well-equipped military special forces squads on compact but complex maps (15 different maps in total). What makes this game so interesting is how realistic it is.


As there are 44 different Operators, they are split equally in half with currently 22 attackers and 22 defenders. Each player has a favorite Operator due to their different ability’s/ gadgets they are given. An operator like Mira completely changes the landscape of a map when picked, with the ability to put impenetrable one-way mirrors into otherwise solid walls. Other operators like Caveira, can silence her footsteps and then interrogate downed enemies to learn the position of their teammates, Vigil, can become invisible to cameras and drones, he was built to be played as aggressive, roaming defender. Finka is another who uses her “Adrenal Surge” to heal her teammates. Gadgets are usually seen as to slow down the attackers push by using traps. Kapkan places down an “EDD” more like a trap wire if an attacker steps on it, it triggers an explosion. Mute uses “Mute Jammers” to mute drones, and anything electronic. Thatcher can use his “EMP grenades” to counter the defender’s gadgets. Echo can us his Yokai drone to stop attackers from planting the defuser and to stun the enemies. Each round of a match starts with a frantic race as one side sets up their defenses and the other hunts for intel with remote-controlled drones. The defenders try to deny the attackers with as much information as possible. It’s only a minute long, but there are a lot of subtle nuances in what walls to reinforce and where to place your traps that can differentiate the good players from the great.


A few High School students shared their thoughts about Rainbow Six. Dawson Mills’s thoughts on Rainbow are that he thinks “It’s a good game he enjoys the fact that it’s realistic besides some of the gadgets/ ability’s some operators have its satisfying when getting a headshot especially. Playing as a team is key to being successful in the game, having good communication helps bring the team together. His favorite Operator for attacking would be Ash or Twitch, and for defending either Jager or Rook”. Josh Bennett commented that he thinks “it’s exciting to have that feeling of adrenalin while gunfighting an enemy, it gets competitive, and very realistic. Working as a team is something that you need to do. His favorite Operators would be Zofia on attack and on defending it would be Doc”. Marcel Hart started that playing rainbow is fun when playing with friends and it takes skill to play. Playing as a team you need to be better team, it takes a lot more fun when you’re with friends. When attacking I like to play as Jackal, as a defender I like rocking Ela.


Overall this game is very fun to be tactical with the people you play with. It’s more fun to play a full squad of 5 with your friends than alone. Rainbow Six focuses on teamwork and strategy, not just aiming prowess. The constant stream of new maps and Operators have been a game changer. The future continues to look bright for Siege.
