The Austin Girls Cross Country team finally made the goal they’ve been working towards for  so long. On Saturday, November 1, the girls attended the state cross country meet in Northfield.

The varsity cross country girls has been working towards going to state as a team for the past two years and finally achieved it. By placing second at the section meet in Owatonna, the team advanced to state.

“When we found out we made it as a team, everyone was super excited,” said captain Madison Overby. “We’ve been working towards this for a long time.”

The team went up to Northfield Friday afternoon and ran in the AA Girls race at 2 p.m. the next day. Top runner Madison Overby placed 51st overall and the team placed eleventh.

“We had so much fun, it was definitely one of the highlights of the season,” said first year runner Colie Justice.

The whole team, as well as the coaches, were happy with their performance at the state meet.

“The girls worked hard all season and we are so proud of everything they have accomplished,” said Coach Einertson.
