The girls swim team represented Austin at the State Meet Nov. 13 and 14 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis. The 200-yard freestyle relay team took 13th place at finals competing against the top teams from all over Minnesota.

The relay team includes: Maddie Kinney, Kayla Finney, Emma Kleis and Abby Gogolewski. Katelyn Hillson and Hannah Burkhart served as the team’s alternates at state.

They had a time of 1:42:11 at finals, a personal best for their particular relay team.

At section finals, the team qualified for state with a time of 1:42:20, beating the state qualifying time by 0.37 seconds.

“I was so proud of our team and how we did,” said senior captain Maddie Kinney.

Kinney was happy to end her high school swimming career with a great group of people.

“[The best part of state] was that I got to spend three whole days with some of the funniest girls making lots of memories,” Kinney said.
