John Marshall had a record of four wins and eight losses approaching this game. Both teams needed something to boost their confidence. On a nine-game losing streak, Austin needed something to turn their season around.

The Packers scored the first goal in the game, but shortly after John Marshall answered with two of their own. “During the second period, we were down by one and started to get down on ourselves, at that point I didn’t know whether we were going to win or not,” said Senior forward Tyler Hoban. Knowing they needed to battle back, the Packers regrouped. Minutes into the third period, Junior Nick Dunlap scored his first varsity goal and tied the game. Senior defenseman Nate Murphy said that this was the momentum changer they needed to turn the game in their favor. With only minutes left in the game, senior Riley Wempner scored the Packer’s winning goal to make it 4-3.

Seniors AJ Mueller, Tyler Hoban, and Nate Murphy shared their thoughts after the game. They all agreed that winning this game was crucial to regaining their confidence after being on a long losing streak. “Hopefully we can build off of this and keep it going,” said Hoban. Senior defenseman AJ Mueller gave his input on the game stating “We could have come out a lot harder right away and shut them out early, but overall this was a game we needed to win. Beating this Rochester team feels good this season, but it’s also something that I needed. I haven’t been part of a team that has beaten John Marshall during my high school career and it feels really good to have finally done that.”
