In previous years, Albert Lea had almost always come out on top. Albert Lea was the first to score 11 minutes into the first period. Going to into the second period the Tigers were up 1-0. 7 minutes into the second period Nate Murphy gets one in to tie the game! With 5 minutes left in the second period Albert Lea scores again to put them up 2-1 before the third period. The third period was scoreless until the last 12 seconds! Kaleb Ree buried the puck in the net and sends the game into overtime. In overtime, both teams were working towards the goal. With 6:45 left in overtime Albert Lea had a shot that nearly ended the game. Thankfully the shot hit the goal post and was deflected away. The play by the packers that followed was a nice exchange of passes between the Packers that resulted in a game-winning goal from Dawson Mills! The goalie for the packers is Ryan Flanders, a senior that has grown up playing hockey. Flanders had 62 shots on goal and saved all but 2. I interviewed Nate Murphy, senior defensemen. When asked what it meant to him to beat the Tigers in his senior season Murphy answered, “I’ll never forget this game. We have been rivals for as long as I can remember and finally being able to beat them meant a lot to me, the seniors and the whole team.” Congratulations to the Packers on a hard fought and won the game!
