On March 14th, 2018, choir students from Austin High School had the opportunity to attend the critically acclaimed Broadway Musical “Newsies”, at Chanhassen Dinner Theater near Bloomington, MN. The show, which was about the newspaper strike of 1962, was filled with music and dancing along with a fantastic cast. Two students, Brock Lawhead and Riley Stratton, were interviewed about their thoughts on the trip. When Lawhead was asked what he was looking forward to about the day, he responded with, “seeing a performance by professionals and getting to be with the choir.” This was his second time attending Chanhassen and he, along with many other students, were very excited for the experience. Stratton was also asked what he was looking forward to and he replied, “I’m looking forward to seeing a really great performance of Newsies, I’ve heard great things about it.” It was also his second time attending a performance at the theater, and he said, “I know it’s a Wednesday, but you gotta go full send for the boys.” Austin High brought four busses full of students to the performance, and they did a very good job representing not just Austin High School, but the whole city of Austin.
